UPDATE: The joyous celebration of Tyrek Burton’s wedding took a devastating turn on Saturday night. Surrounded by friends and family, the night was filled with dancing and happiness, but it quickly unraveled into heartbreak. Burton’s younger sister, Brittany, who lives in Raleigh, is now grappling with the tragedy that followed.

“We were having the time of our lives, and in an instant, it was taken away,” she shared, recalling her brother’s radiant smile.

Just hours after tying the knot, Burton was leaving the wedding venue, believing his new wife had already made it home.

However, when she called to say she was still at the venue, he turned back to pick her up. “He made a U-turn, and I guess he didn’t see someone. He cut them off, and that person followed him back to the park,” Brittany recounted.

Around 9 p.m., Greensboro police responded to reports of a shooting at Barber Park Events Center, where they found Burton, 37, fatally shot.
