What we know so far about shooting outside Trump’s golf course in Florida

UPDATE: West Palm Beach Sheriff Ric Bradshaw announced that a Secret Service agent noticed a rifle barrel protruding through a fence near former President Donald Trump’s residence.

The agent immediately engaged the suspect.

A nearby witness later saw the suspect fleeing the scene and captured a photo of the suspect’s vehicle.

According to Bradshaw, the incident unfolded around 1:30 p.m. ET on Sunday when local authorities were alerted to gunfire by the Secret Service. The witness provided crucial information, describing the suspect’s escape route and vehicle.

Law enforcement agencies used the witness’s information to track down the suspect, who was eventually apprehended by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. The witness was able to positively identify the individual.

At approximately 2 p.m. ET, a person armed with a firearm was spotted outside Trump’s golf course in Florida. Secret Service agents, responding to the threat, opened fire on the individual.

Despite the shots, the suspect managed to escape the scene, fleeing in an SUV.

Following the incident, former President Trump was immediately escorted to a secure location, and no injuries were reported during the event.

A high-speed chase ensued, and the suspect’s vehicle was eventually stopped on I-95 in Martin County.

The individual was taken into custody by authorities.

Florida State Rep. John Snyder said that the Trump golf course suspect is a white male in his mid-60s.

According to the sheriff, the suspect at Trump’s golf course in Florida was armed with an AK-47-style rifle equipped with a scope, and carried two backpacks along with a GoPro camera.

The FBI is describing the incident as “an apparent assassination attempt” on former President Donald Trump at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Officials have scheduled a press conference for 4:30 p.m. ET to provide further details about the incident and the ongoing investigation.
