Two Teens Charged in Fatal Shooting of 17-Year-Old Zaveon Simpkins During Robbery in Montgomery

Montgomery police have arrested two teens in connection with the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Zaveon Simpkins during a robbery over the weekend.
According to Sgt. Tina McGriff with the Montgomery Police Department, Christopher Kelly, 19, and Christian Kelly, 18, were taken into custody on Tuesday, April 8.
Both suspects have been formally charged with capital murder and first-degree robbery.
The shooting occurred shortly before 7:15 p.m. on Friday, April 4, in the 3600 block of Madolyn Lane.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire and discovered Simpkins suffering from life-threatening injuries.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
While authorities have not released full details of the incident, charging documents reveal that the victim was fatally shot during a robbery in which $500 in cash and an iPhone 12 were taken.
Both Christopher and Christian Kelly are currently being held without bond at the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not disclosed whether additional arrests may be forthcoming.
