Örebro Risbergska School shooting suspect identified as 35-year-old Rickard Andersson

ÖREBRO, SWEDEN — The suspect in Sweden’s worst mass shooting, which left ten people dead at Campus Risbergska in Örebro, has been identified as 35-year-old Rickard Andersson.
Authorities confirmed that Andersson took his own life shortly after the attack.
Details about Andersson’s background are beginning to emerge as investigators search for answers to the central question: Why?
According to a close family member, Andersson showed signs of withdrawal during his final years in elementary school.
Classmates reportedly nicknamed him “Luvan” due to his habit of frequently wearing a hood and covering his face with his hand.
“He didn’t seem to have any friends at all,” the relative said, reflecting on Andersson’s isolated adult life.
On Tuesday, Andersson is believed to have entered Campus Risbergska, an adult education center in Örebro, and opened fire, resulting in ten fatalities.
After carrying out the attack, he is suspected of having turned the gun on himself, ending his own life.
Campus Risbergska serves a diverse student population, including many adult learners and immigrants, offering courses in vocational training, Swedish language instruction, and programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Swedish authorities have launched an extensive investigation to uncover Andersson’s motives, which remain unclear.
Officials have not disclosed whether he had any connection to the school or the victims.
“This is a dark day for Sweden,” said Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, who described the massacre as an unprecedented act of violence in the country’s history.
Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer confirmed that Andersson was not known to police prior to the attack, and investigators are working to determine whether he acted alone or had any affiliations that might have influenced the shooting.
The shooting has left the Örebro community—and the entire nation—in shock. Memorials and vigils are being organized, as grief-stricken families, friends, and classmates mourn the lives lost in the tragedy.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward as they continue to piece together the timeline of events leading up to the attack. Additional updates will be provided as the investigation develops.

At least one dead, multiple injured in car-ramming attack in Mannheim, Germany

Mannheim, Germany – A car plowed into a crowd in the city of Mannheim on Monday, resulting in the death of at least one person and injuries to several others, according to local police.
Authorities have arrested a suspect and launched a large-scale operation in the city center as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police have not yet confirmed whether the incident was a deliberate attack or if additional suspects remain at large.
They have urged residents and visitors to avoid the area as investigations continue.
Authorities across Germany had previously heightened security measures ahead of the annual carnival season, which began last week.
This period marks a key celebration in several regions leading up to Lent, and concerns had been raised over potential threats.
German law enforcement had issued warnings after social media accounts linked to Islamic State extremists allegedly called for attacks on carnival parades in Cologne and Nuremberg.
Mannheim’s carnival festivities took place on Sunday, just a day before the tragic event.
Following the incident, Interior Minister Nancy Faeser canceled her scheduled appearance at the Cologne parade, stating that the priority now is rescuing victims, tending to the injured, and conducting initial investigations.
Germany has faced a series of violent attacks in recent months, including vehicle-ramming incidents in Munich (February 2025) and Magdeburg (December 2024). Additionally, Mannheim itself was the site of a stabbing attack in May 2024.
All of these recent assaults were committed by refugees or asylum seekers, fueling a nationwide debate over migration policies.
The issue became a central topic in the recent federal elections, with growing public concern over national security.
Germany’s Chancellor-in-waiting, Friedrich Merz, who won the recent federal elections, has vowed to implement stricter border controls in response to rising public fears over security threats.
However, critics argue that restricting migration alone would not have prevented these recent attacks, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive security strategy.
The Mannheim police have assured the public that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact authorities immediately.
