Wyoming Tragedy: 3 children killed, 1 fighting for life after Byron shooting
Sources confirmed woman shot and killed her children – All under age of 10
Byron, WY – February 10, 2025 – The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office (BHCSO) has confirmed a tragic shooting incident that took place at a residence on the 200 block of East Shoshone Avenue in Byron, Wyoming.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., the BHCSO Public Safety Communications Center received a 911 call from a female identified as Tranyelle Harshman, who reported that multiple gunshots had been fired inside her home.
Harshman informed dispatchers that her four daughters had been shot, and when asked about their condition, she stated that she believed they were deceased.
During the emergency call, Harshman provided the locations of the victims, stating that two of the children were in their cribs upstairs, while the other two were in their shared bedroom downstairs.
She also told dispatchers that she was in her upstairs bedroom and expressed an intent to harm herself.
Despite the dispatcher’s efforts to keep Harshman on the line and de-escalate the situation, she repeatedly stated that it was “too late” and ultimately disconnected the call.
Following the distressing call, BHCSO immediately dispatched multiple law enforcement units to the scene, including mutual aid resources from the Lovell Police Department and Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Emergency medical personnel from North Big Horn Hospital District and Powell Valley Healthcare were also mobilized and staged in the area in preparation for critical care interventions.
Law enforcement officers arrived on the scene within minutes and promptly entered the residence.
Upon conducting a tactical search, officers discovered a horrific scene:
- Two female children, aged 2 and 9 years old, were found deceased with gunshot wounds to the head.
- Two other female children, aged 2 and 7 years old, were still alive despite sustaining gunshot wounds to the head.
- A 32-year-old female, later identified as the caller, Tranyelle Harshman, was located in an upstairs bedroom with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Despite her injuries, she showed signs of life.
Responding officers provided immediate lifesaving first aid before ambulance personnel arrived to administer advanced life support:
- The 7-year-old girl, who remained alive at the scene, was urgently transported to North Big Horn Hospital before being airlifted via Cody Regional Health-First Flight of Wyoming to receive specialized critical care.
- The 32-year-old Harshman was also transported to North Big Horn Hospital, where she received advanced life support before being transferred to a higher-level care facility.
- Tragically, the 2-year-old girl who initially showed signs of life succumbed to her injuries shortly after emergency personnel arrived.
At the time of this release, the medical conditions of the surviving victims remain unknown.

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigations, remained on the scene into the early morning hours of February 11, 2025, processing evidence and conducting an extensive investigation.
The Crime Scene Investigations Unit from Cheyenne, Wyoming, along with Special Agents from the Northwest Enforcement Team in Cody, Wyoming, were deployed to aid in forensic processing.

55-year-old Harold Newton Keene arrested after shooting inside the Austin Central Library
AUSTIN, Texas — A man was taken into custody Saturday afternoon following a shooting inside the Austin Central Library that left one person seriously injured and prompted a large emergency response and temporary shelter-in-place order in the downtown area.
According to the Austin Police Department (APD), officers responded shortly after 12:00 p.m. to reports of gunfire inside the Austin Central Library, located at 710 W. César Chávez Street.
Upon arrival, police and Austin-Travis County EMS units found one victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
The individual was transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.
Assistant Police Chief Lee Rogers stated during a press briefing that the shooter fled the scene before officers arrived.
After an extensive search, the suspect—identified as 55-year-old Harold Newton Keene—was located and arrested in South Austin at approximately 1:25 p.m.
The library was safely evacuated, and the shelter-in-place alert was lifted shortly after Keene’s apprehension.
Authorities emphasized that the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident involving only one suspect and one victim.
“This was not an active shooter situation,” Rogers confirmed.
Preliminary reports and public records reveal that Harold Newton Keene has a lengthy criminal history, including multiple arrests for assault, family violence, terroristic threats, burglary, drug possession, and evading arrest.
He is described by law enforcement officials as a habitual violent offender who has had numerous prior run-ins with police.
Records indicate Keene was previously arrested for threatening a man with a firearm several months ago and, in a separate incident, assaulted another inmate while in custody at the Travis County Jail.
In both cases, prosecutors later declined to pursue charges.
Authorities have not yet released a possible motive for the shooting or confirmed whether the suspect and victim knew each other.
The Austin Police Department’s Major Crimes Division is leading the investigation.
Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to contact the Austin Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS.
