Mass Casualty Incident Declared at Scarborough’s Wentworth School Following Suspected Gas Leak

SCARBOROUGH, Maine – A mass casualty incident (MCI) has been declared at Wentworth School in Scarborough after multiple students began experiencing respiratory distress and abdominal pain, reportedly due to a suspected gas leak.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the school following reports that at least nine children had lost consciousness.

Additional students are also experiencing symptoms consistent with gas exposure.

Incident command has requested Portland Regional Communications Center (RCC) to officially declare an MCI and has called for an additional 10 ambulances to assist in transporting affected individuals to local medical facilities.

Authorities, including fire, police, emergency medical services (EMS), and hazardous materials (HAZMAT) teams, are actively working to identify the source of the gas leak and ensure the safety of all students and staff.

Parents and guardians are urged to await further updates from school and emergency officials and to avoid the area to allow first responders to manage the situation effectively.

WALKER COUNTY, Ala. — Alabama State Troopers are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a 63-year-old man Thursday evening in Walker County.

Authorities identified the victim as Roger D. Naramore, a resident of Nauvoo, Alabama.

The collision occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Alabama Highway 5, approximately five miles north of Jasper.

According to Senior Trooper Gregory Corble, Naramore was operating a Suzuki VZ800 motorcycle when he collided with a Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by 32-year-old Kayla House.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene, but Naramore was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
