ANACONDA, MONTANA — Authorities have officially identified 45-year-old Michael Paul Brown as the primary suspect in a deadly shooting incident that occurred earlier today at the Owl Bar in Anaconda.

Law enforcement agencies have confirmed Brown is still at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

As of this afternoon, the suspect remains unaccounted for.

The Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Law Enforcement Center has issued a public alert advising residents to avoid the Stumptown area and immediately report any sightings or suspicious activity by calling 911.

A helicopter has been conducting aerial surveillance over the region for several hours as part of the active manhunt.

In addition to Stumptown, law enforcement operations are ongoing in the Georgetown Lake, Flint Creek Pass, and Drummond areas.

Deputies from Granite County have reinforced their presence along critical routes in these regions.

Businesses in Anaconda, including McDonald’s, have voluntarily closed early due to safety concerns.

While community chatter initially pointed to the involvement of two individuals—Michael and Richard Brown—law enforcement has confirmed only Michael Paul Brown as the lone suspect at this time.

Reports linking a second individual, Richard Brown, and a hijacked black Honda Accord remain unverified.

A BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert for a black Honda Accord with tinted windows is still active out of an abundance of caution.

Key Developments:

  • Suspect: Michael Paul Brown
    • Last seen in the Stumptown area
    • Description: Tie-dye shirt, blue jeans, orange bandana
    • Believed to be armed with an AR-15-style rifle
  • Status: At large; considered extremely dangerous

  • SWAT Operation: Suspect’s Anaconda residence was cleared; Brown was not located

A friend of the suspect, speaking to Channel2 NOW, described Brown as a combat veteran struggling with untreated PTSD and delusional behavior.

He claimed Brown had long believed he was still involved in special operations and shared stories that seemed to come “straight out of action films.” He added that Brown had shown signs of mental health deterioration for years but was always respectful and kind in public interactions.

Jacob Burns, a relative, disputed rumors of substance abuse but confirmed that Brown had a longstanding history of mental health issues that were not being adequately addressed.

“I watched his mental health decline,” the friend said. “He needed help. I’m heartbroken for the victims and for those grieving in our town.”

According to U.S. Army records, Brown served as an armor crewman from 2001 to 2005 and deployed to Iraq between 2004 and 2005. He continued his service with the Montana National Guard until March 2009, reaching the rank of sergeant before exiting military service.

Retired officer Randy Clark, who lives near the search area, reported seeing a helicopter circling a nearby mountain while heavily armed officers moved through wooded terrain. The area remains locked down with restricted access.

David Gwerder, owner of the Owl Bar, confirmed he was not present during the shooting but knew the victims well.

“He didn’t have any known issues with anyone in the bar,” Gwerder told. “He just snapped.”

BATAVIA, Ill. — A devastating domestic homicide has left a family and community in mourning just days before Christmas.

Noemi Hernandez, a devoted mother of four, was fatally attacked in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Dec. 23, in what prosecutors allege was a violent act committed by her husband.

The incident occurred at an apartment building in the 100 block of Church Street in Batavia.

According to court records and police reports, at approximately 4:37 a.m., Batavia police were dispatched after a man contacted emergency dispatchers and stated that he had killed his wife.

Responding officers located the man outside the apartment building and took him into custody without incident.

When officers entered the apartment, they found Hernandez suffering from severe, life-threatening injuries.

First responders immediately attempted life-saving measures; however, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities identified the suspect as Hector B. Luvianos, 37, who was transported to the Batavia Police Department for questioning.

With assistance from the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force, investigators determined the incident was domestic-related and involved only the two individuals. Police emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

On Dec. 24, 2025, Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser and Batavia Police Chief Eric Blowers announced that Luvianos has been formally charged with first-degree murder, a Class M felony under Illinois law.

He appeared in court the same day for a pretrial detention hearing, after which a judge ordered him held in the Kane County Jail while the case proceeds.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene, and an autopsy is scheduled to determine the official cause and manner of Hernandez’s death.

In the wake of the tragedy, Hernandez’s family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral and related expenses.

In the fundraiser, the family described Noemi as “the heart of her family,” noting that she worked tirelessly, loved deeply, and always placed her children first. Her sudden death, they wrote, has left the family emotionally devastated and financially unprepared.

As an immigrant family with limited resources and no life insurance, they now face the burden of funeral and cremation costs, legal fees, and other unexpected expenses, all while supporting four children grieving the loss of their mother.

The family is asking for community support to allow them to lay Noemi to rest with dignity and focus on healing rather than financial hardship.

The investigation remains ongoing.
