PORT ORANGE, Fla. — Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Sunday on Hidden Lake Drive in the Willow Run neighborhood of Port Orange.

According to police, the incident began when an individual inside a residence opened fire on responding officers.

Officers returned fire, striking the suspect.

Emergency medical services were immediately requested to the scene to provide aid.

Residents in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots and heavy police activity.

One neighbor, posting on social media, clarified that the situation was not an ongoing active shooter incident but rather a standoff between an armed man and law enforcement, which ultimately ended when officers shot the suspect.

The condition of the suspect has not yet been released, and no officers were reported injured during the exchange.

Woman Fatally Struck by Semi-Truck on Birmingham Arkadelphia Road exit ramp from Interstate 5920 Identified as Shontea Baker

Authorities have identified the woman who was killed earlier this week after being struck by a semi-truck on an interstate exit ramp in Birmingham.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed on Friday that the victim was Shontea Renee Baker, 40, a Birmingham resident.

The fatal incident occurred at approximately 10:26 a.m. Wednesday on the Arkadelphia Road exit ramp from Interstate 59/20.

Emergency responders pronounced Baker deceased at the scene at 10:42 a.m.

At this time, no further details regarding the circumstances of the crash have been released.
