Man shot and killed by Homewood police on Green Springs Highway

HOMEWOOD, Ala. — A man was fatally shot by Homewood police Friday morning during an encounter on Green Springs Highway, authorities confirmed.
The individual, identified as John Will, was shot shortly before 10 a.m. in the area north of Valley Avenue near the Red Mountain Plaza shopping center.
He was transported to UAB Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Officials reported that no officers were injured during the incident.
At this time, police have not released further details regarding the circumstances that led to the shooting.
An investigation is underway, and additional information is expected to be provided by law enforcement agencies as the case develops.
Friday’s incident marks the second fatal officer-involved shooting in Homewood in less than three months.
On June 23, officers fatally shot 18-year-old Jabari Peoples of Aliceville during an encounter at a city soccer park. Following a review by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr determined that the use of deadly force in Peoples’ case was justified.
That ruling was strongly disputed by Peoples’ family and their attorneys, who vowed to continue seeking accountability.
The case sparked multiple protests in Homewood, with several demonstrators arrested in the weeks following the shooting.
Community members and advocacy groups are now closely monitoring the latest incident as details emerge.
