Authorities in Newton County, Georgia, responded Friday to reports of an active shooter at Georgia State University’s Perimeter College near Covington, prompting a large law enforcement presence and precautionary building searches.

According to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO), deputies and multiple assisting agencies immediately responded to the scene following the initial emergency call.

After a thorough search, no evidence of a threat or suspicious activity was found in the area.

University officials confirmed that, out of an abundance of caution, Buildings 1 and 2 on campus were searched and cleared by police.

No injuries or gunfire were reported during the incident.

Preliminary information suggests that the report may have been a swatting call — a false report intended to trigger a large-scale police response.

Both GSU Police and Newton County deputies continue to investigate the origin of the call.

Authorities have released a significant update regarding the AMBER Alert issued in Austin, Texas.

Law enforcement officials confirm that the suspect connected to the case has been located, and the red 2017 Ford Mustang believed to have been involved has been recovered.

However, 12-year-old Jazzlyn Anzora remains missing.
