Lamont Truitt Charged in Fatal Shooting of Girlfriend Alyssia Murphy in Trenton
Trenton, NJ — November 16, 2025: Authorities have charged 36-year-old Lamont Truitt in connection with a deadly shooting that killed his girlfriend and injured another woman early Sunday morning.
According to investigators, the incident began at approximately 5:51 a.m. when Truitt approached a silver Toyota Camry parked on Coolidge Avenue.
Inside the vehicle were his girlfriend, 32-year-old Alyssia Murphy of Trenton, and a 25-year-old woman.
Detectives say an argument broke out between Truitt and Murphy before Truitt allegedly drew a handgun and fired multiple rounds into the vehicle.
The second woman managed to escape before Truitt entered the Camry and fled the scene.
Responding officers were initially directed to the area after a ShotSpotter alert detected multiple gunshots near Oakland Street.
Communications dispatchers subsequently received a call reporting that a woman had been shot.
Police located the surviving victim in the 200 block of Coolidge Avenue.
She had sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment. Her condition has not been publicly released.
A second emergency call reported that another woman — later confirmed to be Murphy — had also been shot multiple times and taken from the area in the fleeing vehicle.
Since she could not be located at the scene, the Mercer County Homicide Task Force was brought in to assist the investigation.
Approximately two hours later, officers in Lower Makefield Township, Pennsylvania, located the silver Camry near East Ferry Road and the Delaware Canal. Murphy was found deceased inside the vehicle.
Later that same day, Truitt surrendered to authorities at the Trenton Police Department.
He now faces multiple charges, including:
- First-degree murder
- First-degree attempted murder
- First-degree carjacking
- Two counts of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose
- Second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun
- Second-degree certain persons not to possess a firearm
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion to detain Truitt pending trial.
Prosecutor Angelo J. Marbrey expressed gratitude for the assistance of Pennsylvania agencies, stating his appreciation to the Lower Makefield Township Police Department and the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office for their “instrumental assistance in this investigation.”
The investigation remains active.
