15-year-old suspect arrested in shooting death of 16-year-old Alexander Carcamo in Kennewick
UNION GAP, Wash. — The Kennewick Police Department has announced the arrest of a 15-year-old West Richland boy in connection with the December 3 fatal shooting of 16-year-old Alexander Carcamo at an apartment complex on West 10th Avenue.
The juvenile suspect was taken into custody on a charge of first-degree murder following a multi-agency operation involving local law enforcement and the FBI.
Detectives had been actively investigating the case since the night of the shooting, gathering evidence and following numerous leads.
Their work ultimately led to the identification of the 15-year-old as the primary suspect. A warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest.
On the evening of December 9, investigators tracked the suspect to a residence in Union Gap, where officers from multiple law enforcement agencies executed two related search warrants—one at a residence on West Pine Street in Union Gap and another on Summitview Road in Cowiche.
The juvenile suspect was located inside the Union Gap home and arrested without incident. According to police, multiple firearms were recovered from both residences and seized as evidence.
The suspect was transported to Kennewick and booked into the Benton-Franklin Juvenile Justice Center on a first-degree murder charge.
During the operation, officers also arrested a second individual on unrelated charges. 20-year-old Andres Medina-Garcia, believed to be connected to recent break-ins at Hubby’s Pizza and Summer’s Hub in Kennewick, was found at the same Union Gap residence and taken into custody. He was transported to the Yakima County Jail.
On December 3 at approximately 7:22 p.m., Kennewick officers responded to reports of an active shooting at an apartment complex on West 10th Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old boy suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers attempted life-saving measures, but the teen—identified by loved ones as Alexander Carcamo—succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Detectives collected evidence and canvassed the area as part of the ongoing investigation. The victim’s family has been notified.
The Kennewick Police Department continues to urge anyone with additional information to contact them at 509-628-0333, or to submit an anonymous tip online.
