Former Assistant Wrestling Coach Logan Moyer Dies by Suicide After Shooting Student-Athlete Outside Stewartville High School
STEWARTVILLE, Minn. — Authorities are continuing to investigate a tragic shooting outside Stewartville High School that left a teenage student-athlete critically injured and a former assistant wrestling coach dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a 911 call around 5:00 a.m. Friday reporting a shooting in the parking lot of Stewartville High School, located approximately 10 miles south of Rochester.
Deputies arrived to find two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victim was identified as a teenage male student-athlete, who was shot while walking toward a bus that was preparing to transport approximately 40 coaches and student-athletes to a wrestling tournament.
The student was rushed to a hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and remains in critical condition, authorities said.
Nearby, deputies located an adult male deceased from what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, with a rifle found at the scene.
Law enforcement identified the deceased as Logan Moyer, a former assistant wrestling coach with the school district.
Sheriff Kevin Torgerson stated that preliminary information indicates Moyer had previously been terminated from his coaching position. Investigators are examining the nature of his relationship with the victim and the events that led up to the shooting.
Officials emphasized that details regarding motive remain under investigation, and they urged the public to avoid speculation while the case is ongoing.
Multiple reports indicate that Moyer arrived at the school during the early morning hours while the wrestling team was loading buses. After the student was shot, other coaches reportedly attempted to intervene.
Moments later, a second gunshot was heard, which investigators believe was when Moyer took his own life.
Following the incident, students were reunited with their families, and all classes were canceled for the day at both Stewartville High School and Stewartville Middle School.
The school district also announced the cancellation of a scheduled Friday night basketball game against Lourdes.
“This incident has impacted far more than just the individuals involved,” Sheriff Torgerson said during a news briefing, becoming visibly emotional. “We ask the community to come together and support those who have been affected.”
Stewartville Superintendent Belinda Selfors said the district has mobilized counseling and mental health support services for students, staff, and families, which will remain available through the weekend and into the following week.
“This is an incredibly difficult day for our community,” Selfors said. “In times like these, it is important that we come together to support one another. We also ask for patience and compassion as the investigation continues.”
Authorities have not released further details and confirmed that the investigation remains active, including a review of the relationship between the suspect and the victim.
Law enforcement officials reiterated that no additional threat to the community exists at this time.

Several injured after U-Haul truck drives through protest in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Multiple people were injured after a U-Haul truck drove into a crowd during an Iranian protest on Veterans Avenue in Los Angeles on Sunday, according to police and eyewitness accounts.
The incident occurred near the federal building at 1338 Veteran Avenue, where demonstrators had gathered for a pro–Pahlavi, anti-regime rally.
Video circulating on social media shows a U-Haul truck bearing political slogans related to Iran’s monarchy entering the area of the protest and moving directly through a group of demonstrators.
Witnesses reported that as the truck approached the crowd, several protesters attempted to block its path, striking the vehicle and trying to pull the driver out.
In some footage, individuals can be seen attempting to remove or cover slogans displayed on the truck. Despite these efforts, the driver continued inching forward and ultimately drove into people in the crowd.
Authorities stated that multiple individuals were injured in the incident.
While no fatalities have been confirmed, witnesses described the situation as chaotic and potentially deadly.
Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and treated victims, while law enforcement worked to secure the area.
Police said individuals on the ground attempted to confront the person inside the U-Haul prior to the vehicle moving through the crowd.
Officers subsequently established a perimeter and began moving demonstrators away from the emergency response zone to allow first responders to operate safely.
The Los Angeles Police Department has not yet released the identity of the driver or confirmed whether the incident is being investigated as an intentional act or a traffic-related offense.
Officials indicated that the investigation is ongoing and that further details will be provided as they become available.
