WILMINGTON, Del. — Delaware State Police have identified the suspect responsible for the fatal shooting of Cpl. Grade One Matthew T. “Ty” Snook during a violent incident at a Division of Motor Vehicles facility earlier this week.

According to Delaware State Police, the suspect, Rahman Rose, 44, whose last known address was in Wilmington, entered the DMV on Tuesday posing as a customer.

Investigators say Rose approached Cpl. Snook from behind at the reception desk, where the trooper was working an overtime assignment, and opened fire with a handgun.

Police said that despite being shot, Cpl. Snook pushed a DMV employee out of harm’s way and instructed them to run to safety as Rose continued firing multiple rounds inside the building.

Authorities reported that Rose then allowed several customers to exit the facility and remained inside while waiting for law enforcement to arrive.

As responding officers approached the DMV, police said Rose fired multiple rounds at law enforcement.

During the confrontation, a New Castle County police officer observed Rose inside the building and shot him through a window from outside the facility, striking the suspect.

Cpl. Snook was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Rose was also taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A second Delaware State Police trooper sustained a minor injury not related to gunfire and did not require hospital treatment.

In a statement, Delaware State Police expressed their condolences, saying, “Our DSP family extends its deepest condolences to the Snook family. We are forever grateful to them for sharing ‘Ty’ with us and for the sacrifices they made in support of his service to the citizens of Delaware.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
