Train Vs Pedestrian in Fremont: Mother and Daughter killed, 5-year-old girl found dead in Sandusky River
FREMONT, OH — The body of a 5-year-old girl who went missing after a tragic train accident on Sunday evening was recovered Monday near the Sandusky River, authorities confirmed.
The accident occurred near the Miles Newton Bridge in Fremont, where a family from Fort Wayne, Indiana was walking on a railway bridge during a fishing trip.
A freight train struck the group, killing 34-year-old O Ny Zar, believed to be the mother, and 50-year-old Ram Masan, believed to be the grandmother.
The 5-year-old, identified as Intisar Mi, was found dead Monday.
Her 14-month-old sister, Arti Kar, remains in critical condition after being rescued and revived by a good Samaritan who performed CPR.
The family, visiting from Indiana, spoke limited English, which posed challenges for officials trying to notify relatives.
Authorities emphasized the bridge is marked with “no trespassing” signs and urged the public to stay clear of train tracks.
Search and rescue efforts involved multiple agencies and continued through the night into Monday, ultimately leading to the recovery of the child’s body with the aid of sonar technology.
The National Transportation Safety Board is now investigating the incident.
