JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson Police Department has launched an investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.

According to Detective Tommie Brown, officers responded to a shooting incident in the 3500 block of Sunset Drive after receiving a report of gunfire.

Upon arrival, officers discovered 21-year-old Jakendrick Bass suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities have not yet identified a suspect, and no arrests have been made at this time.

Investigators are actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

CONWAY, AR — A community gathering turned tragic Sunday evening when gunfire erupted at Fifth Avenue Park, leaving two people dead and at least nine others injured, according to the Conway Police Department.

The incident occurred in the early evening hours of April 13, prompting a large-scale emergency response.

Cell phone video captured the chaos as shots rang out at the busy park, sending bystanders running for cover.

Police confirmed that a total of eleven people were struck by gunfire.

Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while nine others sustained injuries.

All surviving victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment and are currently listed in stable condition.

At this time, authorities have not released the identities of the deceased or injured, and no suspects have been publicly named.

The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.

“We are asking the public to avoid the area while investigators continue to process the scene and gather evidence,” Conway Police said in a statement. “This is an active investigation, and we are working diligently to determine what led to this senseless act of violence.”
