Atlanta Rapper Young Scooter Dies After Jumping Fence While Fleeing from Police on His Birthday
Atlanta rapper Young Scooter, a prominent figure in the trap music scene and longtime affiliate of Future, has reportedly passed away on his 39th birthday.
Best known for his street anthem “Colombia” and collaborations with artists such as Gucci Mane and Young Thug, his death has sent shockwaves through the hip-hop community.
According to the Atlanta Police Department (APD), officers were dispatched to the 200 block of William Nye Drive in southeast Atlanta on Friday night after receiving a 911 call regarding a dispute involving a firearm.
Initial reports indicated that gunshots had been heard and that a woman had been forcibly taken into a residence.
Upon arrival, officers knocked on the door, and a male briefly opened it before slamming it shut, prompting police to establish a perimeter around the home.
As officers secured the area, two men attempted to flee from the back of the residence.
One of the men returned to the house, while the other jumped two fences before suffering a severe leg injury.
Authorities stated that the injured individual, now confirmed to be Young Scooter (real name Kenneth Bailey), severed a major artery in his leg while trying to escape.
Officers rendered immediate medical aid, but he succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Grady Hospital.
Amid speculation on social media, APD officials denied any police-involved shooting during the incident.
Lt. Andrew Smith, commander of Atlanta’s homicide unit, emphasized that the fatal injury was not caused by law enforcement and that no shots were fired by officers at the scene.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been called in to review the case, as authorities continue to investigate the initial 911 call regarding a potential female victim.
As of now, police have not confirmed the presence of a woman or any additional victims.
Born Kenneth Bailey on March 28, 1986, in Walterboro, South Carolina, Young Scooter moved to Atlanta at age 9 and became a key player in the city’s trap music movement.
He rose to fame in 2012 after signing with Future’s record label, later collaborating with Gucci Mane on the 2013 mixtape “Free Bricks 2”. That same year, he dropped his own project featuring Lil Boosie, Future, Gucci Mane, and Waka Flocka Flame.
In 2018, he worked with Future and Juice WRLD on the song “Jet Lag.” Known for his raw, freestyle-heavy rapping style, he coined the term “count music” to describe his approach to crafting lyrics spontaneously.
His untimely passing marks a tragic loss for Atlanta’s rap scene and the hip-hop community at large.

Venezuelan national Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis shot in the leg by an immigration agent in Minneapolis
On January 14, 2025, federal law enforcement personnel were engaged in a targeted enforcement operation involving Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, a Venezuelan national who has been present in the United States since 2022.
The operation escalated into a high-speed pursuit, a physical confrontation, and an ambush by multiple subjects, necessitating the use of a defensive firearm discharge by a federal agent.
At approximately 6:50 PM, federal officers initiated a targeted traffic stop of a vehicle operated by Sosa-Celis.
The subject refused to comply with law enforcement commands and attempted to flee the scene.
During the pursuit, the subject’s vehicle collided with a stationary, parked car.
Following the collision, the subject abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
A federal agent pursued the suspect on foot and successfully intercepted him. As the agent attempted to effect an arrest, the subject became combative, resulting in a violent struggle on the ground.
During this confrontation, two additional male subjects emerged from a nearby residence to intervene.
These individuals reportedly ambushed the agent, utilizing a snow shovel and a broom handle to strike the officer.
The situation escalated when the primary suspect, Sosa-Celis, regained his footing and joined the two additional subjects in the assault.
Reports indicate the suspect struck the agent with a blunt object (identified as either the shovel or broom handle).
Citing an immediate threat to his life while being outnumbered and actively assaulted by three individuals, the agent discharged his service weapon in self-defense.
The discharge struck Sosa-Celis in the lower extremity (leg). Following the shot, all three suspects retreated into a nearby apartment complex and initiated a barricade situation.
Following a brief standoff, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) successfully secured the perimeter and apprehended all three individuals without further injury.
Both the federal agent and Sosa-Celis were transported to a local medical facility for treatment.
Images from the scene showed Sosa-Celis conscious and alert during transport.
All three subjects involved in the assault are currently in the custody of ICE.
Further charges related to the assault on a federal officer and resisting arrest are pending review by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
