The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office will review the case and determine formal charges.

Family, friends, and community members gathered Friday evening to hold a vigil in memory of Da’quel, honoring his short life with candles, prayers, and balloons.

The tragedy has deeply shaken the community and reignited concerns about gun safety and violence involving children.

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson issued a statement following the incident:

“I am enormously saddened by the death of the six-year-old last evening. I offer my condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragedy. Let’s be clear, guns must never be used or left unattended around children. Adults must take every precaution to protect young people, and that includes locking guns, storing firearms safely, and always keeping weapons out of the reach of children. I know police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the child’s death, and I am hopeful the appropriate people will be held to account.”

Authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact Milwaukee Police or Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS.

ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. — A late-night party in eastern North Carolina turned deadly early Saturday morning when gunfire erupted, leaving two people dead and 13 others injured, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Burnis Wilkins confirmed that deputies were called to the scene on Dixon Drive, just outside the town of Maxton, at approximately 3:00 a.m. following reports of a shooting at a large outdoor gathering attended by more than 150 people.

When deputies arrived, chaos had already unfolded — witnesses said over 150 individuals fled the area before law enforcement could secure the scene.

Authorities identified the deceased victims as Jessie Locklear and his son Nehemiah Locklear.

Several other victims sustained critical injuries and were transported to area hospitals for emergency treatment.
