Video Shows Moments Eddie Jawad Shot in Targeted Attack Outside Macomb Township Mansion
MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A well-known Metro Detroit businessman with longstanding ties to the Dearborn Arab American community was shot Tuesday morning in what authorities believe was a targeted attack outside his residence in Macomb Township.
The victim has been identified as 59-year-old Eddie Jawad, a respected entrepreneur who owns more than 20 Pit Stop gas stations across Metro Detroit under major fuel operators including Circle K, Speedway, 7-Eleven, Meijer, and Kroger.
Deputies from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire around 10:15 a.m. near 24 Mile and Foss Roads.
Upon arrival, officers found Jawad suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the driveway of his $1.9 million mansion.
Jawad was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in stable condition, according to officials.
Jawad’s wife, Khadije Jawad, told investigators that the shooter ambushed her husband from behind a row of bushes as he exited his home.
She emphasized that the incident was not a robbery, but rather a deliberate and targeted attack.
Aerial footage from the scene showed a black SUV parked on the grass near the home’s entrance, its driver’s door left open as investigators searched the property.
Dozens of deputies were seen combing through the estate’s circular driveway, manicured lawns, and gated perimeter.
Detectives believe the suspect fled in a dark-colored SUV, which was last seen heading east on 24 Mile Road from Wellington Valley Drive immediately after the shooting.
Authorities are urging anyone with information or home security footage from the area to contact the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office at (586) 307-9358.
Jawad, a fixture in Metro Detroit’s business community, has spent over three decades building a successful network of gas stations and convenience stores.
He is widely recognized for his entrepreneurial leadership and community advocacy, particularly in the Arab American community centered in Dearborn.
Just months before the attack, Jawad made local headlines for publicly opposing the construction of a proposed Sheetz gas station near 23 Mile Road and North Avenue.
During a Macomb County Planning Commission meeting in June, Jawad spoke out against what he described as unfair advantages given to large corporate chains over small business owners.
“They see it’s a six- or seven-million-dollar development and their eyes just glow — no matter the cost now or later for residents, neighbors, or commuters,” Jawad said at the time.
Community advocate Hassan Aoun later praised Jawad for his courage in challenging county officials and sparking broader discussions about fairness and transparency in local development.
As of Tuesday evening, no arrests have been made. Detectives continue to investigate the motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting, which they say was carefully planned and personally targeted.
Authorities have increased patrols in the surrounding area as the investigation remains active.

Venezuelan national Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis shot in the leg by an immigration agent in Minneapolis
On January 14, 2025, federal law enforcement personnel were engaged in a targeted enforcement operation involving Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, a Venezuelan national who has been present in the United States since 2022.
The operation escalated into a high-speed pursuit, a physical confrontation, and an ambush by multiple subjects, necessitating the use of a defensive firearm discharge by a federal agent.
At approximately 6:50 PM, federal officers initiated a targeted traffic stop of a vehicle operated by Sosa-Celis.
The subject refused to comply with law enforcement commands and attempted to flee the scene.
During the pursuit, the subject’s vehicle collided with a stationary, parked car.
Following the collision, the subject abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
A federal agent pursued the suspect on foot and successfully intercepted him. As the agent attempted to effect an arrest, the subject became combative, resulting in a violent struggle on the ground.
During this confrontation, two additional male subjects emerged from a nearby residence to intervene.
These individuals reportedly ambushed the agent, utilizing a snow shovel and a broom handle to strike the officer.
The situation escalated when the primary suspect, Sosa-Celis, regained his footing and joined the two additional subjects in the assault.
Reports indicate the suspect struck the agent with a blunt object (identified as either the shovel or broom handle).
Citing an immediate threat to his life while being outnumbered and actively assaulted by three individuals, the agent discharged his service weapon in self-defense.
The discharge struck Sosa-Celis in the lower extremity (leg). Following the shot, all three suspects retreated into a nearby apartment complex and initiated a barricade situation.
Following a brief standoff, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) successfully secured the perimeter and apprehended all three individuals without further injury.
Both the federal agent and Sosa-Celis were transported to a local medical facility for treatment.
Images from the scene showed Sosa-Celis conscious and alert during transport.
All three subjects involved in the assault are currently in the custody of ICE.
Further charges related to the assault on a federal officer and resisting arrest are pending review by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
