Officers were called to reports of a man carrying bladed weapons in Calder Gardens at approximately 8:25 a.m. According to Police Scotland, specialist resources — including firearms officers — were deployed to the scene as authorities worked to contain the disturbance.
Video recorded by witnesses shows a man in the street holding two large knives as police arrived.
Residents reported a heavy law enforcement presence in the area for several hours, including armed officers and police dogs.
Two individuals sustained injuries during the incident and were transported to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.
The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed it received a call at 8:34 a.m. and dispatched three ambulances, three paramedic response units, and a Special Operations Response Team (SORT) to the scene.

Local residents described chaotic scenes unfolding shortly after 8 a.m. William Ramsay, who lives nearby, said he believed the suspect may have entered the stairwell of his building. He also reported damage to a local shop during the disturbance.
Staff at a nearby café, Brunch, temporarily closed their business after spotting the man behind their building between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. An employee, who asked not to be identified, said the man was seen running through a grassy area while holding two knives before moving toward nearby high-rise flats.
Employees described the situation as frightening and unprecedented for the area. The café later reopened after police secured the scene.
As a precaution, local schools implemented temporary lockdown procedures. Parents of students at Wester Hailes High School received a message informing them that the school was in lockdown following a community incident and that students were safe. The school indicated it would provide further updates as necessary.
Residents expressed concern on social media throughout the morning as the situation developed.
Chief Inspector Scott Kennedy confirmed that the disturbance has now been contained and that there is no wider risk to the public.
“The earlier disturbance in the Calder area of Edinburgh is now contained and there is not believed to be any wider risk to the public,” he said. “The incident is not being treated as terror related.”
