A significant police operation is underway at the Trondheim Synagogue in Trondheim, Norway, as authorities respond to a developing security situation in the area.

Witnesses reported a heavy police presence surrounding the synagogue, with officers seen wearing ballistic vests, helmets, and carrying rifles and protective shields while securing the location.

Authorities have established a cordon around the area, preventing people from entering or leaving while officers conduct their operation.

According to reports, one individual may have fled the scene in a vehicle, prompting police to initiate a search for the vehicle as part of the ongoing investigation.

Leif Knutsen, leader of the Mosaic Religious Community in Trondheim, confirmed to the Norwegian news outlet VG that police activity is currently taking place at the synagogue.

โ€œI can confirm that there is an ongoing police operation at the synagogue,โ€ Knutsen said. โ€œThe situation is unclear; thatโ€™s all I can say right now.โ€

Local newspaper Adresseavisen reported that residents nearby observed a large number of officers responding to the scene.

A journalist with the outlet also noted that an event had reportedly been scheduled at the synagogue, but due to the unfolding situation, no one is currently allowed to enter or exit the secured area.

The police response comes amid heightened security measures around the synagogue following the Embassy of the United States, Oslo attack that occurred on March 8, which prompted authorities to increase protective measures at several Jewish community sites across the country.

Officials have not yet released further details about the nature of the incident, and the situation remains active and under investigation.

Authorities are expected to provide additional updates as more information becomes available.

NAKHCHIVAN, Azerbaijan โ€” Authorities in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic reported that drones launched from the territory of Iran struck locations within the region on Thursday afternoon, damaging infrastructure and injuring at least two civilians, according to an official government statement.

The incident occurred on March 5, when two unmanned aerial vehicles entered Azerbaijani airspace and crashed at separate locations within the autonomous region.

Officials said one of the drones struck the terminal building at Nakhchivan International Airport, causing structural damage to the facility.

A second drone crashed near a school building in the village of Shakarabad.

Authorities confirmed that two civilians were injured in the attacks. The extent of their injuries has not been publicly detailed, but both individuals were reported to have received medical treatment.

In an official statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani government strongly condemned what it described as drone strikes originating from Iranian territory.

โ€œWe strongly condemn these drone attacks from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which resulted in damage to the airport building and the injury of two civilians,โ€ the statement read.

Azerbaijan said the attack on its territory violates international law and warned that such actions risk escalating tensions in an already sensitive regional environment.

โ€œThis attack on the territory of Azerbaijan is contrary to the norms and principles of international law and serves to increase tensions in the region,โ€ the ministry said.

Following the incident, Azerbaijan summoned Mujtaba Darmichilu, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Azerbaijan, to the foreign ministry in Baku. Azerbaijani officials said a formal diplomatic protest would be delivered to the Iranian government demanding clarification regarding the incident.
