Nebraska State Patrol Investigates Apparent Murder-Suicide Attempt in Seward
Hagen and Kindt were previously engaged following a two-year relationship, according to court records.
Seward, NE – Newly released court documents provide further insight into what authorities believe was an attempted murder-suicide that took place over the weekend in Seward.
According to the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP), 36-year-old Jamie Hagen was found deceased in her home on Saturday, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Officers also discovered 54-year-old Casey Kindt at the scene with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Court records reveal that Hagen had filed a protection order against Kindt on December 18, 2024, just two days after he allegedly assaulted her and threatened both her and her daughter on December 16.
Following the incident, Kindt faced multiple charges, including terroristic threats, third-degree domestic assault resulting in injury, and child abuse (no injury).
After his initial arrest, Kindt posted bond but was taken back into custody in early January for violating the terms of his release by contacting Hagen.
Prosecutors sought to revoke his bond, but Judge C. Jo Petersen instead raised it to $75,000. Kindt posted bond on Friday, just one day before the fatal shooting.
Authorities confirmed that a juvenile inside the residence made the 911 call reporting the incident.
Hagen and Kindt were previously engaged following a two-year relationship, according to court records.
Investigators also confirmed that Kindt was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm at the time of the shooting.
Kindt is currently receiving treatment for life-threatening injuries at UNMC in Omaha.
The Nebraska State Patrol is leading the ongoing homicide investigation.
