21-year-old Amari Young killed in officer-involved shooting in Auburn
The officer involved in the incident was not injured.
On Monday, Sept. 2, at the request of the Auburn Police Department, Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) launched an investigation into an officer‐involved shooting involving an officer with the Auburn Police Department.
The Auburn Police Department responded to a call for service in the 200 Block of West Longleaf Drive in Auburn within Lee County.
During the course of the incident, a suspect armed with a handgun made forcible entry into the residence occupied by an officer with the Auburn Police Department.
The suspect, later identified as Amari Young, 21, was shot and later pronounced deceased.
No officers were injured over the course of the incident.
Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing.
Authorities are currently investigating a double homicide at the Brighton Community Center, located at 3810 7th Avenue in Bessemer, Alabama.
Multiple law enforcement agencies have responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
Details surrounding the incident remain limited at this time, and authorities have not yet released information about the victims or any potential suspects.
