8-year-old Jeanellie hit and killed by Madison County School bus

The 8 year old Madison resident who was struck by the school bus earlier today has succumbed to her injuries.

She has been identified as 8-year-old Jeanellie Fredericks.

We Thank You for your continued prayers for the family, The Madison County School District, medical staff and all first responders on scene.

This matter remains under investigation and the results of the investigation will be forwarded to the Madison/ Rankin County District Attorneyโ€™s Office.

The Madison County Schools family is heartbroken at the loss of a precious student in a tragic accident on Wednesday, October 2. Our prayers and deepest condolences go out to the studentโ€™s family members and friends. On Thursday and in the days to come, additional counselors will be on hand providing support for students and staff at Madison Avenue Upper Elementary and Madison Avenue Elementary. We encourage parents to reach out to the counselorโ€™s office at their childโ€™s school for additional resources or supports in helping their children through this difficult time.

On October 2, 2024 at approximately 4:20 P.M., the Madison Police Department responded to a Madison County School District bus accident which struck an eight-year-old female at the intersection of Cobblestone Drive and Rockwood Drive.

First responders arrived on scene and immediately began providing medical assistance.

The juvenile was quickly transported to UMMC by Pafford and is currently in critical condition.

We ask the public to please stay away from the area, as Madison Police officers are continuing their investigation and reconstructing the scene.

All school children on the bus were reunited with their parents. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and Madison County School District.

Suspect Who Shot and Killed Christian County Deputy Identified as Richard Bird

Christian County, Mo. โ€” Authorities have identified the suspect accused of fatally shooting a deputy with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office during a traffic stop as Richard Bird.

At the time the Blue Alert was issued, the suspect had not yet been taken into custody.

According to law enforcement officials, the deputy initiated a traffic stop involving a 2001 Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck along State Highway 160 near Highlandville.

During the stop, the suspect allegedly opened fire, fatally wounding the deputy before fleeing the scene.

The suspect was reported to have traveled southbound on Highway 160 following the shooting.

Authorities described the suspect vehicle as a black 2001 Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck equipped with a silver brush guard, black body trim, tinted rear windows, and a three-ball trailer hitch. The vehicle was bearing Missouri license plate 9MG-X36.

A statewide Blue Alert was issued to notify the public and assist in locating the suspect.

Law enforcement officials urged residents not to approach the vehicle or suspect if located, but instead to immediately call 911 and provide detailed information while remaining at a safe distance.

Christian County is situated south of Springfield and north of Branson, an area that sees significant travel due to its proximity to the Ozarks.

Multiple agencies across the region coordinated efforts in response to the alert.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting or the status of the investigation.

Law enforcement officials expressed their condolences to the deputyโ€™s family, colleagues, and the community as they continue to pursue justice in the case.
