WEIR, Miss. — Authorities are investigating a fatal overnight shooting in Choctaw County that claimed the life of a 19-year-old during a New Year’s Eve gathering.
Choctaw County Coroner Chris Coleman confirmed the death early Thursday morning. Later, Weir Police Chief Dillion Cates identified the victim as Caden Yarbrough, 19.
According to Chief Cates, the shooting occurred shortly before midnight during an outdoor New Year’s Eve gathering on Thomas Circle Street in the town of Weir.
Emergency responders were called to the scene, but Yarbrough succumbed to his injuries.
Chief Cates confirmed that one individual has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
