A 31-year-old man, Dedric Page, has been charged with first-degree murder and other offenses in connection with the fatal shooting of a 7-year-old girl in Maxton, North Carolina.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when Page allegedly fired shots into a car containing five people, including the young victim, Quazariya G. Williams.

The girl later succumbed to her injuries at Scotland Memorial Hospital.

Page was arrested shortly after the shooting and is currently being held without bond on the murder charge.

He is also facing charges of discharging a weapon into occupied property and possession of a firearm by a felon.

The lockdown at Lewis Flamson Junior High School (LFJH) has been lifted after an investigation by the Paso Robles Police Department (PRPD) determined the campus is safe.

Earlier this afternoon, at approximately 1:10 p.m., the school was placed on lockdown due to reports of a fight on campus and a loud noise that was initially interpreted as possible gunfire.

PRPD immediately responded, initiating the lockdown to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Two students were detained in connection with the altercation. Officers conducted a thorough inspection of the school, including all classrooms, and verified student attendance.

No injuries have been reported in relation to this incident.

PRPD has deemed the campus secure, and their presence will be maintained on-site for the remainder of the school day as an additional safety measure. Classes have resumed normal operations, and students will be dismissed at the regular time of 2:55 p.m.

Although the immediate situation has been resolved, PRPD is continuing their investigation into the incident.

The school district is working closely with law enforcement to address any concerns arising from today’s events.
