SELMA, AL – 14-year-old boy Jamarj Acoff was fatally shot in Selma over the weekend, and a 17-year-old suspect is now in custody in connection with the incident, authorities confirmed.The Selma Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 1400 block of Weaver Street in the early hours of Saturday, February 10, at approximately 1:55 a.m.

SELMA, AL – A 14-year-old boy was fatally shot in Selma over the weekend, and a 17-year-old suspect is now in custody in connection with the incident, authorities confirmed.

The Selma Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 1400 block of Weaver Street in the early hours of Saturday, February 10, at approximately 1:55 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a 14-year-old male victim suffering from gunshot wounds.

Later that evening, Selma City Schools identified the victim as Jamarj Acoff in an official statement.

“This is a challenging time for us all as we deal with the loss,” Selma Interim Superintendent Darryl Aikerson stated.

Authorities arrested a 17-year-old suspect on Saturday afternoon in connection with Acoff’s murder.

The suspect’s name has not been released due to their status as a juvenile.

The 17-year-old is currently being held without bond at the Perry County Detention Center, pending a court hearing.

At this time, police have not disclosed a motive for the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.

In light of the tragedy, Selma City Schools announced that grief counseling services will be available for students upon their return to school on Monday.
