Victims Identified in Hebron Street Shooting

Springfield, MA – The Hampden County District Attorney’s Office has released the identities of the two men who died following a double shooting on Hebron Street earlier this month.
According to Payton North, Communications Director for the District Attorney’s Office, Springfield Police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 0-100 block of Hebron Street at approximately 5:40 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, after receiving reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, officers discovered two adult males inside the home suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims were immediately transported to Baystate Medical Center. Despite emergency medical efforts, both individuals succumbed to their injuries.
The victims have been identified as 55-year-old Noe Martin and 35-year-old Justin Santiago, both residents of Springfield.
Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni extended his condolences to the families and friends of the victims, stating, “Our thoughts are with the loved ones of Mr. Martin and Mr. Santiago during this difficult time.”
The case is currently under active investigation by the Springfield Police Department’s Homicide Unit, led by Captain Trent Duda, in collaboration with the Hampden District Attorney’s Murder Unit.
Authorities have confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to public safety in connection to this incident.

Marianne Akers Arrested After Fatal Crash Into Chatham YNot Daycare, DUI Suspected

Chatham, Illinois — Authorities are investigating a tragic incident after a woman drove her vehicle through a daycare and after-school camp facility, resulting in multiple casualties.
According to Illinois State Police, the incident occurred when Marianne Akers drove a Jeep through the YNot After-School Camp in Chatham.
Witnesses reported that Akers struck several children outside the building before crashing through the facility and exiting from the opposite side.
Officials confirmed that four victims, ranging in age from 4 to 18 years old, were killed in the incident.
Six additional individuals sustained injuries and were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Akers was also taken to the hospital for medical evaluation.
Authorities on the scene conducted a field sobriety test on Akers, which she reportedly failed.
Multiple sources and witnesses at the scene have stated that Akers appeared intoxicated, and preliminary reports indicate that driving under the influence (DUI) is suspected as a contributing factor in the crash.
Police have taken Akers into custody.
Charges are pending the results of further investigation and toxicology reports.
Officials have emphasized the seriousness of the allegations, with some community members calling for stringent penalties for DUI offenses involved in fatal crashes.
It has also been confirmed that Akers was employed by the Chatham School District’s food service department at the time of the incident.
