Three Injured in Shooting Following Altercation at Westgate Mall in Spartanburg
Police confirmed that two suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.
Spartanburg, S.C. — Authorities are investigating a shooting that occurred Friday evening at Westgate Mall, resulting in three individuals sustaining minor injuries.
According to the Spartanburg Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire at Westgate Mall, located at 205 W. Blackstock Road, at approximately 6:40 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that a confrontation between two groups had escalated into a shooting near the mall’s Food Court entrance.
Preliminary findings indicate that individuals from both groups entered the mall and, during the altercation, at least one person discharged a firearm.
As a result, three people were injured.
One of the victims is reported to have suffered a gunshot wound to the foot, while the others sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
In response to the incident, stores in the surrounding area were advised to go on lockdown as a precaution.
Witnesses and employees across the street reported being instructed to shelter in place while authorities secured the area.
