A 20-year-old man was killed and three others wounded in a mass shooting early Saturday morning on the Southeast Side of Chicago.

Chicago police responded to the 8200 block of South Houston Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood shortly before 5:00 a.m. on July 19, 2025, after receiving reports of gunfire.

Upon arrival, officers located a 20-year-old male, later identified as Tanijay Peterson, suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.

Peterson was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Three additional victims were also injured in the incident and transported to the same hospital for treatment.

A 22-year-old woman sustained a gunshot wound to her right arm and is reported to be in good condition.

A 25-year-old man and a 38-year-old man each suffered gunshot wounds to the abdomen and remain in serious condition, according to police.

As of Saturday evening, no arrests have been made in connection to the shooting.

The circumstances leading up to the incident remain unclear, and the investigation is being led by Area Two detectives.

CHICAGO, IL — A man was found shot to death Friday night on Chicago’s South Side, prompting a homicide investigation by Area One detectives, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 900 block of West 63rd Parkway in the Englewood neighborhood at approximately 10:00 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a 36-year-old male victim suffering from gunshot wounds to the head and neck.

Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene, but the victim was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified him as Dennis T. Durley, age 36.

According to preliminary information, a male suspect exited a white sedan, approached the victim, and opened fire before fleeing the scene in the same vehicle.

No arrests have been made at this time, and Area One detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Authorities have not released details on a possible motive or whether the incident may have been targeted.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact the Chicago Police Department’s Area One Bureau of Detectives or submit an anonymous tip through CPD’s tip line or Crime Stoppers.
