Los Angeles — Acclaimed filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, 68, were found dead Sunday afternoon inside their residence on Chadbourne Avenue in the Brentwood neighborhood, according to law enforcement sources.

Investigators say both victims suffered sharp-force injuries consistent with a stabbing.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division is leading the investigation.

Authorities have not released a final determination of cause or manner of death and emphasized that the case remains active and ongoing.

Law enforcement sources familiar with the inquiry have identified the couple’s adult son, Nick Reiner, as a person of interest.

Officials have not announced charges, and no public arrest has been confirmed.

Police have declined to comment on motive or additional details, citing the need to protect the integrity of the investigation.

Any allegations remain unproven unless and until formally charged and adjudicated in court.

Emergency responders were called to the home Sunday afternoon after a report of unresponsive individuals.

Upon arrival, first responders pronounced both victims deceased. A large police presence remained at the scene into the evening as detectives processed evidence and canvassed the area.

Rob Reiner was a towering figure in American film and television and the son of legendary comedian Carl Reiner, who died in 2020. He began his career as a comedy writer in the 1960s, including work on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, before rising to prominence in the 1970s as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family. His performance earned two Primetime Emmy Awards during the show’s historic run.

After the sitcom concluded in 1979, Reiner transitioned to directing, debuting with the influential mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap. He went on to direct a series of enduring classics, including Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery, A Few Good Men, The American President, and The Bucket List. In later years, he continued acting, appearing on New Girl and The Bear. According to industry listings, a final directing project related to Spinal Tap has been completed and is expected to be released next year.

Reiner met Michele Singer, a photographer, while directing When Harry Met Sally…. The couple married in 1989 and were together for more than 35 years. They shared three children—Jake, Nick, and Romy. Reiner also has a daughter, Tracy, from his previous marriage to director Penny Marshall.

Authorities stressed that no conclusions should be drawn at this stage. Further information is expected following the medical examiner’s report and additional investigative findings. The department said updates will be released when details can be confirmed.

A 43-year-old woman from Bessemer has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend earlier this month, according to authorities.

Court records show Wilhelmina Leigh Carlton, 43, is charged with the murder of Darius Montreal Boglin, 45.

Carlton was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on March 5 and is currently being held without bond.

Officers with the Bessemer Police Department were dispatched at approximately 7:49 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, to the 3100 block of Avenue B following reports of a stabbing.

According to Detective Justin Burmeister, responding officers arrived at the scene and discovered Boglin suffering from a stab wound in a driveway.

Emergency responders attempted to assess his condition, but he was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 8:10 p.m.

Authorities said Carlton was still present at the location when officers arrived and was taken into custody without incident.

Investigators confirmed that Carlton and Boglin were involved in a dating relationship.

Charging documents allege that the fatal incident occurred during an altercation when Boglin allegedly grabbed Carlton from behind, at which point she stabbed him, resulting in his death.
