BULVERDE, Texas — A 15-year-old student is dead after shooting a teacher and then turning the gun on himself Monday morning at Hill Country College Preparatory High School, located just north of San Antonio, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m., shortly before the start of the school day.
According to the Comal County Sheriff’s Office, the student opened fire inside the campus, striking a teacher identified as Stephanie Ruvalcaba, who teaches Social Studies and Advanced Placement Government.
Responding deputies reported that the student died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Ruvalcaba was transported to a San Antonio-area hospital for treatment.
As of the latest update, officials have not released information regarding her condition.
Sheriff Mark Reynolds emphasized that the situation was quickly contained and did not evolve into an active shooter scenario.
“School was placed on lockdown right away to protect everyone on the campus,” Reynolds said. “This was a shooting, but not an active shooter situation. The threat was contained rapidly.”
The campus was immediately secured, and students were evacuated in a controlled manner. They were transported to Bulverde Middle School, where they were reunited with their families.
Students described a chaotic scene as the incident unfolded. One student reported hearing loud bangs and screams coming from a second-floor classroom, while another recalled hearing multiple gunshots before a teacher quickly ushered students into a safe location.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, including the Comal County Sheriff’s Office, Bulverde Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Texas Rangers. Officials credited coordinated inter-agency training for the swift and organized response.
“This kind of response doesn’t happen by accident,” Reynolds said. “It’s the result of training, coordination, and a shared commitment to protecting this community.”
Hill Country College Preparatory High School, a STEAM-focused campus within the Comal Independent School District serving approximately 260 students in grades 9 through 12, was placed on lockdown during the incident.
Principal Julie Wiley announced that classes would be canceled Tuesday, with counseling services made available to students, staff, and families affected by the shooting.
“Our hearts are with everyone impacted, especially the injured teacher, her family, and our school community,” Wiley said. “We know this has been a difficult day.”
Authorities noted a somber moment during the reunification process, as the family of the student involved was present when they were approached by law enforcement officials.
Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the shooting. Officials confirmed that no other injuries were reported.
The teacher remains hospitalized, and her condition has not been publicly updated.
The Comal County Sheriff’s Office, along with state and local agencies, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

14-Year-Old Middleton High School Student Carson Chrapkowski Dies After Bicycle Crash, Driver Alyssa Anderson Arrested
MIDDLETON, Idaho — A 14-year-old Middleton High School student has died after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle near the high school Friday night, according to the Middleton Police Department.
The teenager was transported by Life Flight to St. Luke’s Boise following the crash but died from his injuries early Saturday morning.
Middleton police said the crash involved a vehicle and a bicyclist near Middleton High School. The 14-year-old suffered critical injuries and was flown to a Boise hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Police announced Saturday morning that the young bicyclist had succumbed to his injuries.
The teen was identified in the information provided for this report as Carson Chrapkowski, a Middleton High School student. However, the police department’s public statement did not release the teenager’s name.
Police arrested 41-year-old Alyssa Louise Anderson in connection with the crash. Anderson was booked into the Canyon County Jail.
According to police, Anderson is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter, aggravated DUI and leaving the scene of an injury accident.
Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the collision or the specific allegations supporting the DUI charge.
The crash remains under investigation by the Middleton Police Department and Idaho State Police. Investigators have not released further information about the sequence of events or whether additional charges could be filed.
