Motorcyclist Christopher Davis Killed in I-74 Crash Near Indiana-Ohio State Line in Dearborn County
DEARBORN COUNTY, Ind. — An early morning crash on Interstate 74 near the Indiana-Ohio state line has claimed the life of an 18-year-old Ohio motorcyclist, according to Indiana State Police.
The fatal two-vehicle collision occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m. on I-74 westbound near the 170-mile marker in northeastern Dearborn County. Master Trooper Chris Clark came upon the crash shortly after it happened and observed severe injuries at the scene.
Preliminary findings indicate that a 2023 Ford pickup truck, driven by Gerald Hazel, 30, of Yuma, Arizona, was traveling westbound in the left passing lane.
A 2004 Honda motorcycle, operated by Christopher Davis, 18, of Hooven, Ohio, was traveling behind the truck.
Investigators believe Davis was traveling well above the posted speed limit when his motorcycle collided with the rear of the pickup truck.
The impact ejected him from the motorcycle, resulting in critical injuries.
Davis was transported by ambulance to the University of Cincinnati Hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities confirmed that his family has been notified.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured and is cooperating fully with investigators.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department, West Harrison Police Department, Harrison Fire and EMS, and the Hamilton County, Ohio Coroner’s Office.
The crash remains under active investigation by Indiana State Police.
Officials have not released additional details at this time.
Authorities continue to remind drivers to adhere to posted speed limits and maintain safe following distances to help prevent serious and fatal crashes on highways.

Train Derails in Ferguson Involving Vehicles, Hazmat Team Called Over Ethyl Alcohol Rail Car
FERGUSON, Mo. — A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
A Hazmat response was requested because one rail car involved in the derailment was carrying ethyl alcohol. Emergency crews were assessing the rail car for any potential leak or hazardous condition and working to secure the area.
The presence of ethyl alcohol prompted additional safety precautions while responders examined the derailed train and surrounding vehicles.
At this time, authorities have not released details about possible injuries, the cause of the derailment or the extent of damage.
The investigation and emergency response remain ongoing in Ferguson, and officials are expected to provide additional information once the scene has been fully assessed.
