59-year-old Cary Carlile killed in Johnson County crash
JOHNSON COUNTY, Indiana — A fatal crash involving two pickup trucks towing trailers left one man dead and three others injured Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.
The Johnson County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Cary Dean Carlile, 59, of Morgantown, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at approximately 1:55 p.m. at the intersection of West State Road 135 and County Road 500 West (Spearsville Road).
Preliminary findings indicate that a white Ford F-250 traveling northbound on State Road 135 crossed the center line, possibly while braking, as suggested by tire marks on the roadway.
The vehicle then collided head-on with a white Ford F-550, with both trucks reportedly towing trailers at the time of the crash.
Three additional individuals sustained injuries and were transported to Indianapolis-area hospitals for treatment.
One victim required extrication from the vehicle after becoming pinned by the steering column and was airlifted via Lifeline helicopter due to the severity of injuries.
The crash prompted the closure of State Road 135 at Spearsville Road for several hours as investigators processed the scene.
An autopsy for Carlile is scheduled as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, including contributing factors such as speed and driver actions.
Officials have not released further details as the investigation remains active.

Train Derails in Ferguson Involving Vehicles, Hazmat Team Called Over Ethyl Alcohol Rail Car
FERGUSON, Mo. — A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
A Hazmat response was requested because one rail car involved in the derailment was carrying ethyl alcohol. Emergency crews were assessing the rail car for any potential leak or hazardous condition and working to secure the area.
The presence of ethyl alcohol prompted additional safety precautions while responders examined the derailed train and surrounding vehicles.
At this time, authorities have not released details about possible injuries, the cause of the derailment or the extent of damage.
