Three Killed in Crash on Tobacco Road in Augusta
AUGUSTA, Ga. — A late-night crash in Richmond County left three people dead after two vehicles collided along Tobacco Road, authorities confirmed.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the scene at approximately 11:17 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
Preliminary reports indicate that a vehicle traveling westbound on Tobacco Road collided with another vehicle that was attempting to turn left onto Tobacco Road from Morgan Road.
The Richmond County Coroner’s Office confirmed that two occupants in the westbound vehicle were killed, along with one individual in the second vehicle.
All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials reported that one of the vehicles caught fire following the impact, complicating the identification process.
Positive identification of the victims in that vehicle will require further forensic examination.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the deceased pending official identification and notification of next of kin.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under active investigation as officials work to determine contributing factors.

Train Derails in Ferguson Involving Vehicles, Hazmat Team Called Over Ethyl Alcohol Rail Car
FERGUSON, Mo. — A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
A Hazmat response was requested because one rail car involved in the derailment was carrying ethyl alcohol. Emergency crews were assessing the rail car for any potential leak or hazardous condition and working to secure the area.
The presence of ethyl alcohol prompted additional safety precautions while responders examined the derailed train and surrounding vehicles.
