24-year-old Robert Boyles Killed in High-Speed Motorcycle Crash on Lovers Lane in Chaves County
CHAVES COUNTY, N.M. — A 24-year-old Roswell man was killed Thursday evening, April 30, 2026, following a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Chaves County, according to local authorities.
Chaves County deputies were dispatched at approximately 5:35 p.m. to the 3600 block of Lovers Lane after receiving reports of a crash involving a motorcycle.
Upon arrival, deputies located a lone rider, who was identified as the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Officials confirmed that the rider, later identified as Robert Joseph Boyles, 24, of Roswell, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
According to initial findings and witness statements, Boyles was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the motorcycle.
The vehicle then left its path and collided with a pipe fence, resulting in fatal injuries.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding potential contributing factors as the investigation remains ongoing.
Deputies confirmed that next of kin have been notified.
The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including speed and roadway conditions at the time of the incident.

Train Derails in Ferguson Involving Vehicles, Hazmat Team Called Over Ethyl Alcohol Rail Car
FERGUSON, Mo. — A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
A Hazmat response was requested because one rail car involved in the derailment was carrying ethyl alcohol. Emergency crews were assessing the rail car for any potential leak or hazardous condition and working to secure the area.
