Texas Mother Marlene Vidal Charged With Capital Murder After Two Children Found Dead Inside Burning Vehicle in San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A South Texas mother is facing capital murder charges after two young children were found dead inside a burning vehicle early Friday morning in San Antonio, according to authorities.
Police identified the suspect as 34-year-old Marlene Vidal of Edinburg, Texas. Investigators said Vidal is the mother of the two victims, ages 5 and 7, whose bodies were discovered inside the charred vehicle following a fire in a residential area.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, the tragic incident unfolded between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. in the 500 block of Richland Hills.
Authorities said a passerby walking a dog noticed a vehicle fully engulfed in flames and encountered a woman at the scene who claimed she had already contacted emergency responders.
Despite that statement, the witness independently called 911 to report the burning vehicle.
Firefighters and police officers quickly responded to the scene and worked to extinguish the fire.
After the flames were brought under control, authorities discovered the bodies of two children inside the vehicle.
Investigators later identified the children as Vidal’s son and daughter. Their names have not yet been publicly released pending further notification and investigation.
Police said Marlene Vidal was transported downtown for questioning following the incident.
After interviews with investigators, she was formally charged with capital murder in connection with the deaths of the two children.
Authorities believe Vidal acted alone in the incident.
Officials also indicated that mental health concerns may have played a role in the tragedy, though investigators have not publicly disclosed a possible motive or additional details surrounding the circumstances that led to the deadly fire.
Assistant Police Chief Jesse Salame addressed the emotional impact the case has had on the community.
“And I know our community is going to be hurting right now,” Salame said. “Everyone’s going to want to know why something like this happened, and unfortunately, the why is sometimes the hardest question to answer.”
The case remains under active investigation as authorities continue gathering evidence and working to determine the full timeline of events surrounding the deaths of the two children in San Antonio.

14-Year-Old Middleton High School Student Carson Chrapkowski Dies After Bicycle Crash, Driver Alyssa Anderson Arrested
MIDDLETON, Idaho — A 14-year-old Middleton High School student has died after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle near the high school Friday night, according to the Middleton Police Department.
The teenager was transported by Life Flight to St. Luke’s Boise following the crash but died from his injuries early Saturday morning.
Middleton police said the crash involved a vehicle and a bicyclist near Middleton High School. The 14-year-old suffered critical injuries and was flown to a Boise hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Police announced Saturday morning that the young bicyclist had succumbed to his injuries.
The teen was identified in the information provided for this report as Carson Chrapkowski, a Middleton High School student. However, the police department’s public statement did not release the teenager’s name.
Police arrested 41-year-old Alyssa Louise Anderson in connection with the crash. Anderson was booked into the Canyon County Jail.
According to police, Anderson is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter, aggravated DUI and leaving the scene of an injury accident.
Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the collision or the specific allegations supporting the DUI charge.
The crash remains under investigation by the Middleton Police Department and Idaho State Police. Investigators have not released further information about the sequence of events or whether additional charges could be filed.
