16-Year-Old Murphy Andes Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash on LA-958 in East Feliciana Parish
SLAUGHTER, La. — A 16-year-old girl was killed and another teenager seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash Friday evening in East Feliciana Parish, according to the Louisiana State Police.
Authorities identified the victim as Murphy Andes, 16, of Clinton, Louisiana.
Troopers said the fatal crash occurred shortly before 5:40 p.m. on May 15 along LA-958 south of LA-959 near Slaughter.
According to the preliminary investigation, a vehicle carrying two teenagers was traveling northbound on LA-958 and approaching a left-hand curve when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway.
Investigators said the teenage driver then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to cross back over the roadway, leave the left side of the road, rotate, and overturn.
Murphy Andes, who was riding in the front passenger seat, suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, also a 16-year-old from Clinton, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
State police said both teenagers were properly restrained at the time of the crash.
Investigators noted that impairment is not suspected to have been a factor in the collision. However, as part of standard crash investigation procedures, routine toxicology samples will be collected and submitted for laboratory analysis.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and portions of the roadway were impacted as troopers documented evidence and worked to determine the circumstances that led to the deadly rollover crash.
The Louisiana State Police continues to investigate the fatal East Feliciana Parish crash.

Train Derails in Ferguson Involving Vehicles, Hazmat Team Called Over Ethyl Alcohol Rail Car
FERGUSON, Mo. — A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
A Hazmat response was requested because one rail car involved in the derailment was carrying ethyl alcohol. Emergency crews were assessing the rail car for any potential leak or hazardous condition and working to secure the area.
The presence of ethyl alcohol prompted additional safety precautions while responders examined the derailed train and surrounding vehicles.
At this time, authorities have not released details about possible injuries, the cause of the derailment or the extent of damage.
The investigation and emergency response remain ongoing in Ferguson, and officials are expected to provide additional information once the scene has been fully assessed.
