RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil — Authorities are investigating a fatal mid-air helicopter collision that reportedly claimed the lives of six people in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday morning, according to local reports and emergency officials.

The collision occurred over the western zone of Rio de Janeiro when two helicopters reportedly struck each other in flight before crashing to the ground.

Emergency responders from the Rio de Janeiro Military Fire Department were dispatched to the scene shortly after the incident.

According to officials, one of the helicopters crashed into a car dealership, where several electric vehicles caught fire following the impact.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze and secure the area as rescue and recovery operations continued.

• Oliver Tree, American singer, comedian, and entertainer (reported)

Officials stated that while Oliver Tree’s name appeared on passenger manifests provided to aviation authorities, formal identification of all victims was still underway.

Authorities noted that confirmation of identities would depend on forensic examination and official investigative findings.

According to multiple reports, American singer and comedian Oliver Tree, born Oliver Tree Nickell in Santa Cruz, California, was believed to be among those killed in the crash.

Tree rose to prominence through social media platforms and later achieved international recognition with a successful music career that blended alternative, electronic, and comedic elements.

Throughout his career, he collaborated with notable artists and producers, including Skrillex and Zeds Dead.

His most recent studio album, Love You Madly, Hate You Badly, was released earlier this year, and he had a series of upcoming performances scheduled across the United States, including stops in Nashville, Atlanta, New York City, Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Austin.

Prior to the crash, Tree had reportedly shared content documenting his first visit to Brazil, including social media posts showing him wearing a Brazilian national soccer jersey.
