Kyler Young Shot and Killed Kristina Schwaighofer Before Taking His Own Life in Apparent Tulsa Murder-Suicide
TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Police Department is investigating an apparent murder-suicide after a woman and her boyfriend were found dead inside their home Thursday afternoon following a welfare check requested by concerned co-workers.
Authorities identified the victims as 39-year-old Kristina Schwaighofer and 35-year-old Kyler Young.
Investigators believe Young fatally shot Schwaighofer before taking his own life.
According to the Tulsa Police Department, officers with the Riverside Division were dispatched at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026, to a residence near East 51st Street and South Boston Place after Schwaighofer failed to report to work.
Police said Schwaighofer’s co-workers became increasingly concerned when she did not arrive for work and could not be reached by phone or text message.
A neighbor, who also worked with Schwaighofer, told reporters she drove to the home after repeated attempts to contact her were unsuccessful. When she arrived, she noticed Schwaighofer’s vehicle was still parked in the driveway.
The neighbor said she sent one final text message warning that if she did not receive a response, she would call 911. After receiving no reply, she contacted emergency services and requested a welfare check.
When officers arrived at the residence, they looked through a window and observed a man lying on the floor with a handgun nearby.
Concerned that someone inside may still need assistance, officers forced entry through a window.
Inside the residence, they found Schwaighofer deceased in a chair in the living room. Young was also found dead nearby from what investigators described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Based on the preliminary investigation, Tulsa police believe Young shot Schwaighofer before taking his own life.
Authorities emphasized that the case remains under investigation and that the findings are preliminary pending completion of the investigation and review by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police also confirmed there is no evidence that any other individuals were involved in the incident.
Neighbors told reporters the couple had been dating for several years and had recently been experiencing relationship problems.
One neighbor said Young had struggled with personal issues and that tensions reportedly worsened after he lost his job the previous week.
Investigators have not confirmed whether those reported circumstances played any role in the incident, and no official motive has been released.
Friends and neighbors described Schwaighofer as a kind and caring person whose death has deeply affected those who knew her.
Residents said the tragedy has left the neighborhood in shock and expressed sympathy for Schwaighofer’s family, friends, and co-workers.
Detectives with the Tulsa Police Department continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the apparent murder-suicide.

19-year-old Brianna killed in Lincoln shooting, suspect Tyler Benzel charged with first-degree murder
LINCOLN, Neb. — Lincoln police have released additional information about a fatal shooting Tuesday evening that claimed the life of a 19-year-old woman identified as Brianna.
Authorities have identified 37-year-old Tyler Benzel as the suspect in the shooting. According to Lancaster County Jail records, Benzel has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death.
According to Lincoln police, the incident began with a verbal and physical altercation involving Benzel’s wife, Brianna and other individuals.
Investigators said they believe the confrontation was initiated by Benzel’s wife. Police said Benzel later left his residence and approached the group.
Authorities allege that Benzel told the individuals to leave and made verbal threats before raising a firearm and firing at the group. Police said the confrontation and shooting took place away from Benzel’s property.
Officers arrived at the scene within moments and found Brianna suffering from a single gunshot wound.
Officers immediately began providing life-saving medical treatment at the scene. Brianna was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Police recovered a 9mm handgun at the scene. However, investigators said forensic testing is still required to determine whether the recovered firearm was the weapon used in the shooting.
Authorities said they are not currently aware of any other weapons being involved in the incident.
Police said Benzel was cooperative when officers arrived at the scene. Authorities also said Benzel and his wife did not know Brianna or the other individuals involved before the altercation.
Benzel’s wife has not been arrested or charged in connection with the shooting at this time.
The investigation remains active as detectives continue gathering evidence, including forensic testing of the recovered firearm.
Authorities have not released additional information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Benzel is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
