Disturbing Video Shows Gunman Fatally Shooting Female Citibank Employee During Deadly Tampa Campus Attack
TAMPA, Florida — Disturbing surveillance video reportedly shows the moment a gunman fatally shot a female Citibank employee during a deadly shooting at the Citibank Center campus in Tampa on Wednesday afternoon.
The attack left one woman dead and four other people injured before an armed Citibank security guard confronted and fatally shot the suspect inside the office complex, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting began shortly after noon at the Sabal Park Office Development, where approximately 3,200 employees were reportedly on campus.
According to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Frank Losat, the suspect drove a sedan through a fence before crashing into an outdoor dining area where employees were eating lunch.
The gunman then exited the vehicle carrying a rifle and approached a woman seated in the outdoor area.
Video footage reportedly captures the suspect firing at the woman at close range, killing her at the scene.
After the initial shooting, the suspect moved into a nearby building and opened fire inside the cafeteria, prompting an armed security guard employed by Citibank to intervene.
The security guard confronted the gunman, and the two exchanged gunfire. The guard struck the suspect, ending the attack. The suspect was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Chief Deputy Losat praised the security guard for confronting the armed suspect and stopping the violence, potentially preventing additional casualties.
Four other people were transported to a local hospital with injuries authorities described as non-life-threatening. Officials had not provided additional details about how those individuals were injured.
The incident triggered a massive emergency response, with approximately 367 law enforcement personnel responding to the campus. Investigators secured multiple crime scenes, including the outdoor seating area where the woman was shot and the building’s cafeteria, where the gunman exchanged gunfire with the security guard.
Authorities began interviewing witnesses and reviewing available video evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events.
The identities of the woman who was killed and the suspected gunman were being withheld pending notification of their next of kin. Investigators had not established a motive for the attack.
The FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) assisted local authorities with the investigation. Nearby Hillsborough College issued a shelter-in-place recommendation during the incident, while law enforcement worked to secure and clear the Citibank property.
Citibank confirmed it was coordinating with authorities and established designated locations where employees could reunite with family members. The company directed employees and their loved ones to meeting locations at the Sheraton Tampa Brandon Hotel and Staybridge Suites Tampa East.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine what led to the shooting and establish a complete timeline of the attack.
