26-year-old Dejah Manning shot and killed during verbal altercation in Altgeld Gardens

CHICAGO, Ill. — A woman was fatally shot Sunday evening during a verbal altercation in the Altgeld Gardens neighborhood on the city’s Far South Side.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the incident occurred just before 7:30 p.m. on August 31, 2025, in front of a residence in the 13200 block of South Ellis Avenue.
The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Dejah Manning, a young mother.
Police said Manning was involved in an argument with another woman when the confrontation escalated and the offender opened fire, striking Manning.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives are actively searching for the female suspect, who fled following the shooting.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the suspect’s identity or possible motive.

Woman Fatally Struck by Semi-Truck on Birmingham Interstate Exit Ramp Identified as Shontea Baker

Authorities have identified the woman who was killed earlier this week after being struck by a semi-truck on an interstate exit ramp in Birmingham.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed on Friday that the victim was Shontea Renee Baker, 40, a Birmingham resident.
The fatal incident occurred at approximately 10:26 a.m. Wednesday on the Arkadelphia Road exit ramp from Interstate 59/20.
Emergency responders pronounced Baker deceased at the scene at 10:42 a.m.
At this time, no further details regarding the circumstances of the crash have been released.
The Birmingham Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
