Suspect neutralized after shooting at Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office in Wallace
UPDATE: The suspect has been neutralized, according to Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris.
WALLACE, Idaho — Authorities are responding to reports of an active shooter incident at the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office in Wallace, prompting a large and ongoing law enforcement response and the closure of portions of the downtown area.
According to local media and statements from regional law enforcement agencies, officers were dispatched after reports of gunfire at the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office, which is located directly across from the Shoshone County Courthouse.
Initial information circulating online and among witnesses suggested that shots may have been fired inside the lobby of the sheriff’s office. Officials have cautioned that details remain preliminary and are still being verified.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that law enforcement personnel are actively responding to the reported active shooter situation.
In a related statement, the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office in neighboring Montana initially posted that reports of an active shooter at the Shoshone County Courthouse were accurate.
Authorities later clarified and corrected that information, stating the incident was occurring at the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office, which sits immediately in front of the courthouse.
“We are sending reinforcement to help our neighbor,” the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office said in an updated post. “Please pray for all law enforcement.”
A heavy police presence has been observed surrounding the sheriff’s office and adjacent buildings as officers work to secure the area and assess the situation.
Authorities are urging the public to stay out of downtown Wallace, the county seat of Shoshone County, until further notice.
Nearby businesses have taken protective measures. The owner of an Ace Hardware store located across the street from the sheriff’s office confirmed that gunfire struck their building. Employees were immediately placed on lockdown in the store’s basement to ensure their safety.
There have also been unconfirmed reports that a suspect may be barricaded inside the sheriff’s office, possibly in an interior area described by witnesses as an attorney visiting room.
Additionally, witnesses have reported hearing multiple gunshots—at least seven—over the course of more than an hour earlier in the incident. Authorities have not confirmed the suspect’s status or location.
At this time, no official information has been released regarding injuries or casualties.
The situation remains active and fluid, with multiple agencies assisting and additional resources being deployed.

Jessica Moore, 36, Killed in Seven-Vehicle Crash on I-81 in Pennsylvania; Truck Driver Faces Homicide Charge
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — Jessica Moore, 36, of Newville, Pennsylvania, died in a fiery seven-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 in Cumberland County on Friday morning. Pennsylvania State Police said a truck driver is expected to face a homicide by motor vehicle charge in connection with the collision.
Investigators said the crash occurred on northbound I-81 near mile marker 47.1 in South Middleton Township. The collision involved a tractor-trailer and six other vehicles, leaving two vehicles on fire and several people injured.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, David Rodis Lynn III, of Round Rock, Texas, failed to stop for slowing traffic on northbound I-81. His tractor-trailer struck another vehicle, triggering a chain-reaction crash involving seven vehicles.
The impact caused the tractor-trailer and another vehicle to catch fire. Moore died at the scene, according to the information released about the crash. Her official cause of death remained pending an autopsy scheduled for Tuesday.
Authorities reported that occupants of other vehicles suffered injuries. Emergency responders transported the injured individuals to Holy Spirit Hospital and UPMC Carlisle for treatment. Officials did not provide further details about the number of people injured or the severity of their injuries.
The fatal collision occurred after an earlier incident on the same stretch of northbound I-81. At approximately 5 a.m., another tractor-trailer overturned, prompting road closures in the area.
The earlier crash disrupted traffic before the seven-vehicle collision occurred later that morning. Authorities have not provided further details about whether the initial incident directly contributed to the fatal crash.
Lynn is expected to face a charge of homicide by motor vehicle. However, he had not been arraigned on the anticipated charge at the time of the report.
The investigation into the deadly crash remains ongoing. Pennsylvania State Police are asking anyone with information about the collision to contact the agency’s Carlisle station.
