Suspicious item found in South Terminal Area at Miami International Airport in Florida
MIAMI, Fla. — Hundreds of passengers were evacuated from Miami International Airport on Sunday after a suspicious item was reported inside one of the airport’s terminals, prompting a significant security response and temporary closures, according to officials and local media.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the incident occurred in the airport’s South Terminal.
In response, authorities shut down Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening checkpoints serving Concourses G, H, and J, along with the adjacent curbside roadway, while law enforcement investigated the situation.
Witnesses described a sudden moment of panic inside the terminal.
Eugene Katchalov, who was preparing to proceed through security, said he heard a loud “pop,” followed by passengers rushing toward exits.
In a social media post, Katchalov said the evacuation expanded rapidly, with large numbers of people being directed outside. He estimated that thousands of travelers were gathered outside the terminal area during the response.
Another eyewitness, Patrick Emad, reported that passengers were instructed by authorities to move as far away from the building as possible as a precaution.
Video footage circulating on social media showed large crowds assembled outside the terminal as the evacuation continued, with law enforcement maintaining a visible presence.
Airport operations in the affected areas were temporarily disrupted during the investigation.
Authorities have not released details regarding the nature of the suspicious item, and no injuries were immediately reported.
The situation remains under review, and officials said additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

Man Detained After Spraying Ilhan Omar With Substance During Town Hall Meeting
A town hall meeting in Minneapolis was disrupted Tuesday evening after an individual rushed the stage and sprayed U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar with an unknown substance, prompting a swift response from security and law enforcement.
According to witnesses and video from inside the venue, the incident occurred as Rep. Omar was addressing the audience and calling for Secretary Kristi Noem to resign or face impeachment.
An adult male attendee suddenly moved past security barriers, ran toward the stage, and appeared to deploy a liquid or aerosol substance in Rep. Omar’s direction.
Security personnel, along with several attendees, immediately intervened and subdued the individual. Rep. Omar was quickly escorted from the stage by her security detail and Capitol Police as a precaution.
Sources familiar with the situation said Rep. Omar was not seriously injured and was evaluated for possible eye or skin irritation related to the substance.
She was reported to be safe, and no hospitalization was required.
As of late Tuesday evening, Rep. Omar had not released a public statement regarding the incident.
Minneapolis Police Department officers and federal authorities responded to the scene and took the suspect—described as a man in his 30s—into custody without further incident.
Investigators said no weapon other than the spray device was recovered.
The substance involved has not yet been identified, and authorities have not announced potential charges.
The incident remains under active investigation by local and federal law enforcement agencies.
