Jose Lozada Killed in Amsterdam E-Bike Hit-and-Run Crash Guy Park Avenue and Wall Street NY

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. — Authorities are continuing to investigate a fatal crash involving a vehicle and an electric bicycle at the intersection of Guy Park Avenue and Wall Street in Amsterdam, as new details emerge about the incident that claimed the life of an elderly man.

The victim has been identified as Jose Che Lozada, an older male who was operating an electric bicycle at the time of the collision.

According to information gathered from the scene, Lozada was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries.

Preliminary information from individuals near the crash reconstruction effort indicates that the vehicle operator may have been a female, though this detail has not yet been officially confirmed by investigators.

Authorities are also reportedly examining whether the electric bicycle failed to yield at a stop sign prior to the collision. However, officials caution that this aspect remains part of an ongoing investigation and has not been formally verified.

The incident is being investigated as a possible hit-and-run, as the vehicle involved reportedly fled the scene immediately following the crash. Early descriptions suggest investigators are searching for a dark-colored SUV, though no official vehicle description has been publicly released.

Multiple units from the Amsterdam Police Department remained on scene for several hours as crash reconstruction teams worked to determine the sequence of events. The intersection of Guy Park Avenue and Wall Street was temporarily shut down to allow for a thorough investigation.

The investigation remains active, with authorities working to identify the driver and determine all contributing factors. Officials are expected to release additional details as they become available.

Anyone with information related to the crash or the suspect vehicle is urged to contact local law enforcement.

The tragic incident has also raised renewed concerns about electric bicycle safety in Amsterdam and surrounding communities. Reports of near-misses and crashes involving e-bikes and scooters have become increasingly common, particularly as warmer months bring more riders onto public roads.

Safety advocates suggest that enhanced education, awareness, and potential certification programs for electric bike operators could help reduce risks and prevent future tragedies.

As the investigation continues, the community is mourning the loss of Jose Che Lozada. Friends, family, and residents are remembering him while calling for accountability and improved safety measures to protect all road users.
