A tragic crash on Interstate 95 in Riviera Beach claimed the life of 16-year-old Toryann McFarlane early Wednesday morning, just two days after the teenager celebrated her graduation from Inlet Grove Community High School.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the deadly multi-vehicle collision occurred shortly after midnight on northbound I-95 near the Blue Heron Boulevard exit in Riviera Beach.

Investigators said Toryann McFarlane was driving a Nissan Altima northbound when she lost control of the vehicle for reasons still under investigation.

The car traveled onto the outside shoulder, where it struck a guardrail and concrete barrier before being redirected back into the travel lanes.

Troopers said the disabled Altima came to rest in the outside center lane of the interstate.

Authorities stated that McFarlane exited the vehicle and was leaning into the back-seat area when a BMW traveling northbound collided with the right side of the disabled car.

The impact reportedly threw the teenager onto the outside shoulder of the roadway. Emergency responders pronounced Toryann McFarlane dead at the scene.

Following the collision, the BMW continued forward and struck a concrete wall before coming to rest along the shoulder and outside lane.

A third vehicle traveling northbound attempted to avoid the wreckage but also collided with the disabled Altima during the chain-reaction crash.

A 21-year-old man involved in the collision was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Another driver involved in the incident was not injured.

The fatal crash forced the closure of all northbound lanes of Interstate 95 for several hours overnight as investigators processed the scene and cleared debris from the roadway.

Friends and classmates said the tragedy became even more heartbreaking because Toryann had just celebrated a major milestone days earlier. Loved ones described her as caring, supportive, and full of positive energy.

One of her close friends, J’Ziyiah Black, said the two had been close since their freshman year at Inlet Grove Community High School and recalled seeing Toryann smiling after graduation ceremonies only days before the crash.

“She was just the most caring person in the world,” Black said while remembering her friend.

Friends also shared that Toryann had recently gotten her own vehicle, making the sudden loss even more devastating for classmates and family members mourning her death.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues investigating the circumstances that caused the teen driver to lose control of the vehicle.

Authorities have not yet announced whether speed, road conditions, distraction, or other factors contributed to the crash.
