Early Monday morning, 19 News reporter Winnie Dortch was shot during what authorities believe to be a domestic-related incident.
According to Lakewood police, just before 8 a.m., a call came in reporting a heated argument between two individuals in the area of Clifton Boulevard.
As officers were en route to the location, additional reports were received stating that gunshots had been fired.
Upon arriving at the scene on Chase Avenue, police found two individuals, a man and a woman, lying on the sidewalk, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, though his identity has not yet been released.
The woman, identified as Winnie Dortch, was critically injured and was immediately transported to MetroHealth by Lakewood EMS. Her condition remains serious, though further details regarding her injuries have not been made public.
A firearm was recovered at the scene, and detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
While the full nature of their relationship remains under investigation, police confirmed that the two individuals were known to each other.
