Student identified as Steven Jones shot at Central High School in Memphis

A shooting occurred outside Central High School in Midtown Memphis on Monday afternoon, leaving one juvenile critically injured.
The victim, identified as Steven Jones, was found in a parking lot when police responded at 2:44 p.m.
He was transported to Regional One Health, where he remains in critical condition.
Authorities describe the incident as a “targeted” altercation between the suspect and the victim, who are believed to have known each other.
A school board member confirmed that the shooting took place in the football field parking lot.
During the incident, Jones was grazed by a bullet, but the injury became critical due to complications from the exit wound.
The suspect, reportedly a student, fled the scene but was apprehended near Bellevue Middle School shortly afterward.

Police have not yet filed charges and are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Towanna Murphy, a District 7 representative on the Memphis Shelby County Schools board, issued a statement addressing the tragedy:
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic school shooting that occurred earlier today. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims. We strongly advocate for comprehensive legislation to address gun control and ensure the safety of our students.”

Two San Antonio Police officers shot at West Side hotel, suspect killed

SAN ANTONIO, TX — Two San Antonio police officers were shot during an incident on the city’s West Side Wednesday morning, according to Police Chief William McManus. The suspected gunman is also reported to be down.
The shooting occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m. in the 6800 block of U.S. Highway 90 westbound, near Military Drive, in the parking area of the Travelodge Motel.
Multiple emergency medical units were dispatched to the scene following reports of officers injured by gunfire.
When officers responded to the location, an exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in both officers being struck.
The suspect was also shot during the confrontation.
The conditions of the officers have not yet been released, and it remains unclear how severe their injuries are.
The access road along U.S. Highway 90 westbound has been closed as police secure the area and conduct a full investigation.
A large law enforcement presence, including tactical and crime scene units, remains on site.
Chief McManus confirmed that additional details will be provided during a scheduled press briefing later today, as investigators work to determine the events leading up to the shooting and whether any additional suspects were involved.
Residents are urged to avoid the area as the investigation remains active.
