North Little Rock Police Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting Following Traffic Stop

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR – Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred early Thursday morning in the parking lot of Cactus Jack’s located on McCain Boulevard.

According to a spokesperson with the North Little Rock Police Department, the incident began around 6:45 a.m. when officers initiated a routine traffic stop.

During the stop, a passenger seated in the front of the vehicle suddenly exited and fled on foot.

As officers pursued the individual, the suspect reportedly fired a weapon at them. Officers returned fire, striking the individual.

The suspect was subsequently transported to a local hospital with injuries that have been described as non-life-threatening.

Police have not released the suspect’s identity or gender at this time.

No officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire.

The North Little Rock Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is actively investigating the incident.

In accordance with standard departmental policy, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Woman Fatally Struck by Semi-Truck on Birmingham Arkadelphia Road exit ramp from Interstate 5920 Identified as Shontea Baker

Authorities have identified the woman who was killed earlier this week after being struck by a semi-truck on an interstate exit ramp in Birmingham.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed on Friday that the victim was Shontea Renee Baker, 40, a Birmingham resident.

The fatal incident occurred at approximately 10:26 a.m. Wednesday on the Arkadelphia Road exit ramp from Interstate 59/20.

Emergency responders pronounced Baker deceased at the scene at 10:42 a.m.

At this time, no further details regarding the circumstances of the crash have been released.
