Birmingham Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was found shot to death inside a vehicle on Monday morning.

The tragic incident unfolded just before 8 a.m. when East Precinct officers were dispatched to the area near Gadsden Highway and Parkway East in response to reports of a shooting.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a man slumped over in the driver’s seat of a pickup truck, having sustained fatal gunshot wounds.

A 5-year-old child was also found inside the vehicle, unharmed but visibly shaken.

The child was safely escorted to police headquarters, where they remain under protective care.

According to preliminary findings, the victim had been driving along Parkway East when another vehicle pulled alongside his truck and opened fire.

After the shooting, nearby good Samaritans quickly intervened, escorting the child from the truck and taking them into a nearby CVS pharmacy for safety.

Birmingham Police spokesperson Officer Truman Fitzgerald confirmed that no arrests have been made at this time, but investigators are following leads on a potential suspect vehicle.

Police are urging anyone with information related to this incident to come forward, as they work to piece together the events surrounding the fatal shooting.

Timothy Haynes, 18, was pronounced dead at approximately 11:54 p.m. at the scene of the incident on Wales Court, according to Charleston County Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal.
